FavoriteLoadingAdd to favorites Hey everyone. In this video I will try to show you a way to play 'U Can't Hold No Groove' by Victor Wooten. I would like to emphasize that this is how I play the song, and not necessarily how it is played by Victor Wooten himself. Still, I hope it will help you learn the basics of this song. I broke the song down into several patterns, following a more or less chronological order (but keep in mind that certain patterns keep recurring in the song.) Anyways, if you have questions, feel free to ask 😉

That’s a nice idea, but you’ll have to give me some time, cause I have to figure it out myself first 😉

Yes, the middle section is quite challenging. Like I said in the video, I’m still learning it myself 😉 In fact, the way I play it here, differs slightly from the studio version of the song. I think the most challenging aspect, is all the stuff that the right hand is doing. If you happen to have troubles with that, then you might wanna just practice the motion itself. So don’t worry about the fretting hand, just practice the thumb with the two plucks, while holding the strings muted with your fretting hand. Just start slowly until you feel comfortable to speed up 🙂

Hi Jan. Spent the best part of day on this and it’s been really helpful. Many thanks. Still finding the middle section tricky tho- it’s gonna take some time to sink in I think( I should have it nailed by June or July lol) Appreciate the time you took to post this. Nice one.
