I have been playing the upright bass off-and-on for about six years now. Only recently have I taken it back up very seriously for about the past three months. When I took lesson about five years ago my instructor had me use New Method for the Double Bass, Book 1, by Franz Simandl. This book is very good for beginner double bass players. The book will lead into using a bow. I do not use a bow so I only practice the non bowing lessons. Another really good book to use is Ray Brown’s Bass Method. This too is a really good book for beginners to advanced playing techniques. I have been using Ray Brown’s book for about three months now. Anyway, just some ideas for you to use if you are interested in some good books to use for the double bass.

Great video – amusing, informative, and glad to see other people go through the same pains as me when starting out on DB 🙂 . Also, good to see someone who’s not pretending they know how to play(yet!) and trying to give a lesson.

No one can be Esperanza….she is so awesome and beautiful!!!! I love her. I am sure that you will be pretty good one day though because you are soooo good on the electric now. You have at least inspired me to buy one. Thanks.

Happy Hunting

“big ass violin” – I almost died laughing! sorry I missed you last weekend! BUSY week.

I PASSED MY JURIES (main focus of last week.)
So my junior recital is on!

Bach – Cello Suite No.1
Vivaldi – Sonata No. 3
Capuzzi – Concerto in F
Wagner – Die Meistersinger

Good good going. May I ad, though – you don’t “really” use your third finger until you reach thumb position.
