Add to favorites “Pickup slap” exercise in D7
It can really help your “groove” to fill in some percussive rhythm in your basslines, especially when playin unaccompagnied – ie starting a song/groove with bass alone
Basically you’re emulating the snare drum on 2 and 4 by slappin the string/strings over the pickup
Im exaggerating a bit in the slow sections, overemphasizing the slaps.
is pickup slap different from the slap that uses the thumb.? im confused.. by the way, nice groove..
>> you’re the one that should “try”;-)<<
Haha, funny you understood it that way – my intention was to address and encourage other bass players, not the master himself, of course ![]()
Good, that i dont have to try it:-D
Anyway, best wishes from Germany! (next UEFA EURO Champion)
It’s such a fun for me to play this one, maybe because I never played this way before. As u wrote above, I dont miss a clicking device or whatever.
I also like the different sound of the slap and the muted note, although it sounds good too to play this one in DT technique. Give it a try.
Sure it does, would sound good with a pick too, but this is a fingerstyle exercise, and you’re the one that should “try”;-)
PS:More pickup slap exercises, please.
It`svery difficult to get the groove
Luxury! Not everything is easy, just consider yourself lucky with video examples!
When i was starting out I a had an old turntable i put on halfspeed.. Luxury!!
(quotes from Monty Python;-))
