FavoriteLoadingAdd to favorites A quick lick recorded acoustic with my laptop crappy mic:-) Im playing my old cheap Maison electro acoustic bass A lick/run with a lot of slides only using notes from the E major scale. I also show a E maj9 chord voicing - from bottom up it is E (root) - open E string B (fifth) - 14th fret A string F# (ninth) - 16th fret D string G# (third) - 13th fret G string

Exactly, always analyze what you play

Great lick, Thomas!
A good exercise while learning a cool lick like this is to not only know what notes they are by name (E, B C# etc), but also know their scale degree.
This way we can learn not just licks, but how to use different notes from the scale to build interesting lines.

So: from start of this lick to the end they are-
Emaj7 chord
E(root) F#(9) G#(3) B(5) F#(9) G#(3) B(5) C#(13) D#(7) G#(3) B(5) F#(9) G#(3) C#(13)

note: “9” and “13” refer to the 2nd and 6th scale degrees.
