Paul Wolfe is a bass player and teacher who lives in South West London.
Paul began teaching seriously two years ago - and got into teaching when he gave his 5 year old son a bass guitar for his birthday (of course, he has visions of his son growing up to be like Victor Wooten!).
Paul's approach to teaching is very much song based. There's a great quote from either Billy Sheehan or Jeff Berlin - he can't remember who - who said "The answers to all your musical questions are contained in the grooves of your record collection." And for 99% of bass players that quote is probably true.
When Thomas asked Paul to be a guest teacher he wondered what to teach here - as Thomas has been prolific over the years with his great videos. So he decided that what he would post here would be lessons showing beginners and intermediates how they can play lines to some great songs.
First up is PUMP IT UP - bassline by Bruce Thomas. In the following weeks we're going to look in detail at tunes like WHAT YOU'RE DOING by RUSH, SWEET HOME ALABAMA and more in the 'classic rock' vein.

Jake Martin: It's good to see such an awsome bassist teach so freely. Many people don't realize how rare that is. I'm Jake, and I've been playing for 7 months now and your videos have helped me alot. I do have one question, can you go over the modes and improvisation. I know the modes, I just don't know how to apply them. Thanx
MarloweDK: The strings are new on this one, thats helps a LOT
macdaddy: To be specific, #4, the beginner slap bass lesson. I can't get that crisp, "chink", edge, especially on the plucked notes, no matter what I do.
